El Quiché, Guatemala - Central America

ADISA – Asociación para el Desarrollo Integral de San Antonio Ilotenango – was created in 1991 by a group of farmers who needed financing to buy materials to support their farming activities. 14 years on and ADISA is now a major player in the local economy, providing financing, predominantly for commerce and housing, in the mountainous region of San Antonio Ilotenango.

ADISA provides financial and non-financial assistance with the aim of improving the quality of life of rural populations. 81% of its customers are in the countryside. As part of its non-financial assistance program, the MFI has established an educational institute for indigenous communities, scholarships for disadvantaged children and offers an IT room with computers and internet access.

Most customers are craftsmen, traders, and farmers. These are the predominant economic activities in the region. The average loan that ADISA grants (EUR 1050) corresponds to 48% of Guatemala’s gross national income.
