Field visit in Guatemala


Some days ago, LMDF visited the microfinance institution (MFI) ASDIR – Asociación de Desarrollo Integral Rural – in the town of Totonicapán, in the eastern region of Guatemala. This institution, founded in 1999, serves more than 13,000 customers of which 77% are women and its services benefit mainly to the rural population active in the remote mountainous area.

ASDIR offers several types of products to its customers as individual and group loans, as well as access to remittance services to their families, or payment facilities for electricity and telephone services. LMDF contributed, with two investments totaling USD 750,000 to the development of ASDIR’s microfinance activities in Guatemala.
