The Al Karama Foundation was created in 1999 as a project launched by the governmental organization AMAL, in charge of developing the country. In March 2000, the foundation received the approval to operate as an micro-credit organisation and then started its activities in Oujda in the eastern region in the northeast of the country. In 2006, the MFI’s activities were extended to other regions and the headquarter was transferred to Rabat.

Al Karama’s mission is to meet the financial needs of the poorest populations of the eastern region and other regions of Morocco, which are excluded from the traditional financial system by seeking their socio-economic integration and especially the one of women, as well as to promote socio-economic development of the poor by providing affordable financial services for the creation of income generating activities and employment, technical services for assistance, guidance and support for small projects.
