Abomey Calavi, Benin - West Africa

Comuba was created in 2000 at the initiative of about ten people who have set up a mutual mechanism of contributions and reciprocal financing (tontine) to meet the needs of members. Low-income women have become the preferred target of the institution following the proposal of a member to support a women’s group.

The institution’s vision is to be an autonomous decentralised financial system, specialised in financing vulnerable layers and contributing to sustainable socio-economic development. To achieve their vision, Comuba contributes to improving the well-being of low-income women through groupings by offering quality financial and non-financial services.

The MFI finances more than 65,000 clients, mainly women from rural areas. Comuba is present in seven of the twelve departments of Benin through 15 agencies.

In addition to group financing, the institution also offers other products: savings products, money transfer services and compulsory death insurance.
