Fundap, which was created in 1981, is a multi-faceted institution that has principaly active in the south west of Guatemala. The NGO is structured in 6 departments: The Microfinance program, Education for Life program, various Social Services programs, the Agricultural Development program, the Environmental Protection program and the Handcrafts program.

This foundation seeks to promote the development of low-income sectors of the Republic of Guatemala, especially the rural residents of the regions of the central highlands, north and southwest of the country, through innovative projects that avoid paternalism and ensure a consistent improvement in quality of life. All within a framework of sustainable development with full respect for human dignity, culture and traditions.

The MFI offers 4 type of microcredits : Micro-entrepreneur, agricultural loans, housing loans and village banking services. Furthermore, clients of village banking receive ongoing training in various topics like use of financial resources, workshops, food processing or handcrafts making.
