Pro Mujer – Argentina

The institution Pro Mujer Inc. was founded in 1990 by two pioneers: Lynne Patterson (USA) and Carmen Velasco (Bolivia). It is an organisation that aims to help female entrepreneurs in Latin America and is headquartered in New York (USA) so that it is easier to mobilise funding from the US.

Pro Mujer is a leading women’s development organization that provides more than 286,000 women in Latin America with the means to build livelihoods for themselves and futures for their families through financial services, business and empowerment training and healthcare support.

Pro Mujer does a lot more than microfinance. The three pillars of microfinance, health and empowerment constitute a holistic approach to development. All three components serve to re-enforce each other. In Argentina, Pro Mujer funds more than 9,900 clients, 100% of whom are women.

Pro Mujer targets only women and provides education and health services. This offer is particularly developed and allows the institution to have a strong social impact on the economic and social development of its clients.
