Umutanguha Finance Company Plc (UFC) was established in 2003 at the initiative of a group of widows as a savings and credit cooperative. Umutanguha means “loyal friend”. Since its creation, the MFI has constantly evolved, and today it is composed of an integration of microfinance cooperatives.

UFC currently counts 6,000 clients and 11  branches throughout Rwanda with a strong predominance in rural areas (96.1% of its customers). The MFI focuses its actions on the rural areas of the country, targetting primarily those excluded from the traditional financial system: youth, women, farmers and refugees. These characteristics illustrate their strong social identity.

57% of the institution’s clients are women and the average disbursed loan is of EUR 1,372.
