Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

The Dominican Development Foundation (FDD) was established in 1966 as a response to the need for a peaceful and dignified Dominican Republic. It was formed by a group of 23 businessmen, led by José Armenteros Seisdedos and Rafael Esteva, who aimed to be the driving force behind the elimination of economic inequality after the fall of the Trujillo dictatorship and the civil war of 1965.

The FDD emerged as the first initiative of its kind in the country, representing the fraternity and solidarity that unites all Dominicans across different socio-economic sectors. It was a genuine expression of the business leaders’ desire to contribute to the Dominican economic recovery and sponsor a new social experience without partisan influences or conflicting with the role of the state.

The FDD offers six different products for their clients and has 15 offices located throughout the country in 9 different provinces. 60% of their clients are women, and 43% of them live in rural areas. With over 50 years of experience, the FDD has been actively working towards promoting economic equality and social development in the Dominican Republic.
