12th Annual Global Microfinance Forum – Berlin, 17th-18th March 2016

The LMDF’s Executive Director gave a keynote address at the 12th Annual Global Microfinance Forum

Kaspar Wansleben, the Executive Director of the LMDF, presented the challenges and opportunities in a fast changing microfinance market, emphasising the possibilities inherent in targeting smaller and emerging microfinance institutions in frontier markets. Digitalisation of financial services and the increasing variety of financial service providers to the poor call for a clearer delineation of roles and impacts they aim to achieve.

The saturation and slowing growth rates in some key markets should not overshadow the fact that many markets remain underserved and have significant potential to develop.

The keynote concluded with the importance of a client centric approach, where actors throughout the intermediation chain base their actions on client needs, to achieve higher impact, better business practices and reduce risks.
